    I am excited to have back my good friend IFBB Pro Figure Competitor Kara Nicole Finer. We Featured Kara at the beginning of 2009. At the time of the interview Kara was an NPC Figure Competitor, I am happy and proud to say Lil K has earned her IFBB Pro Figure card. This girl is on fire!!!

    Eddie: Hello Kara, It is great to have you back. Tell us all about what has been happening in your Pro Figure career?

    Kara: Thank you for having me back Eddie, I really appreciate it. We will definitely see what the future holds for me. My first Pro debut will be the NY PRO show in April.


    Eddie: At the rate you have been going I know you will do great! Tell the readers where you live and also where you train at?

    Kara: I currently live In Connecticut And I train at Gold's Gym.

    Eddie: What is new on your competition history?

    Kara: I qualified for a National Level show last year after placing First and Second place at the Jay Cutler Classic and Atlantic States in both the figure and fitness divisions. I had actually planned to compete in Team Universe just a few months after Atlantic States last year but had to back out of my prep a few weeks prior to the show due to a surgery I needed to get taken care of.

    It was a VERY difficult decision I had to make to pull out of my prep only a few weeks before stepping on stage but I have always been a firm believer that you need to listen to your body. My coaches and I then decided to compete in Team Universe this year and I was completely shocked that I placed second in the fitness division and earned my IFBB Pro Card.

    This had been a lifelong goal of mine. I have been competing for five years and I remember saying back in 2005 that I didn't care how long it took me to earn that card...whether it was 5 or 15 years..that I wouldn't stop until I earned it.

    I overcame many life changing events and obstacles while prepping for this show so it meant a lot to me that I was able to find the strength within me to pull on though. I could have let those obstacles ruin the goals I had envisioned for myself but instead I turned those obstacles I was faced into determination and drive. I truly feel blessed with everything that's happened to me...I believe everything happens for a reason.

    Eddie: That's the thing I love about you, you are driven and determined. You never give up till you reach your goals. When did you join the DiabeticMuscle.com team?

    Kara: Mike Jirovec, a longtime friend of mine and the owner of DiabeticMuscle.com asked me to join his team about a month ago. I am honored to be a part of his team and I know he is going to go far with both his website and bodybuilding career.   • Eddie: You are a popular girl! What has been your stepping stone to get where you are today?

    Kara: Since 2005 when I first starting competing in Figure, I had always been truly amazed and inspired by fitness competitors. Because I lack a dance and gymnastics background I was told there was no way that I would succeed in the fitness division so that's what I began to believe.

    Two years had passed and I still had this burning desire within my soul to prove to myself and to the world that I could do anything I put my heart into...no matter what the circumstances may have been. I then began working with my coach and fitness routine choreographer IFBB PRO Heidi Fletcher/Sullivan.

    After working with Heidi the first few times, she truly believed I had what it took to reach my goals as a fitness competitor. In turn, this boosted my confidence to continue. I would not be where I am today without Heidi's support, advice and guidance.

    I had also never reached my full potential as a competitor until I began working with my contest prep coach IFBB PRO Fakhri Mubarak. As a figure and fitness competitor of four years I had struggled finding a credible contest prep coach to assist me in obtaining the “national” look I had been searching for.

    I wanted a coach who took me seriously and who would never let me fail. I wanted a coach who believed in my capabilities and who could transform my physique into the standards I had envisioned. Becoming a part of his Team Elite Prep was the best thing I could have done to succeed as a competitor.

    My physique has made tremendous changes in the past two years and I have been able to reach all of my goals under his guidance. At last, I have discovered two amazing coaches that have shown me extreme commitment and dedication in return to mine."

    Eddie: I have noticed an outstanding change in the past year. Can you give us a run down of what your current training workout look like?

    Kara: Currently I'm in My off Season so I only perform 30 to 40 minutes of Cardio 3 to 4 times a week if that. My training and nutrition plan get really serious beginning 12 to 16 weeks out from my show date.

    Monday: OFF DAY
    Tuesday: Chest and Abs and Cardio
    Wednesday: Cardio
    Thursday: Shoulders and Calves and Cardio
    Friday: Back and Abs and Cardio
    Saturday: Legs
    Sunday: OFF DAY

    Eddie: Could you share with us your philosophy on nutrition?

    Kara: Graduating with a Dietetics and Nutrition degree...I 'm an extremely firm believer that nutrition plays the biggest role in an individuals life no matter what their ultimate goals may be. I have learned that if you want to be successful then you have to put in the work and do what it takes to get there. Eating "Clean" may not always be easy for many individuals but it will change your life completely. Moderation and Balance is key.

    Eddie: So true, congratulations on your degree, I know you worked hard for it. What was the hardest thing you had to deal with when it came to your diet?

    Kara: I'd have to be honest and say that it was definitely a challenge for me to eat 6 meals a day while prepping for my last show. This was the first time in five years I truly just didn't have an appetite. In the past, I had always been so hungry while dieting that I couldn't wait until time passed so that I could eat my next meal. I definitely struggled getting all of my meals in me this time around but I knew it had to be done so I forced it down many times ;)

    Eddie: Have you discovered a new performance supplement product that has helped you to reach your fitness and competitive goals?

    Kara: I recently tried a new product called Extend by Scivation that I really have fallen in love with.

    Eddie: Extend is an awesome and very popular pre, intra, and post workout drink. What do you do to relax before a competition?

    Kara: I usually just listen to music....besides the gym it's one of my only "outlets".

    Eddie: How has your training, nutrition and all that goes with competitive IFBB Pro Figure affected your social life?

    Kara: In the past, I'd have to say it definitely did affect my social life to some extent. My life revolved around training, eating ,sleeping and staying home most of the time. In the past two years I have changed that completely. In the end, competing will never be my life and I will NEVER let it consume me and everything that I do.

    I make sure I balance my life so that it doesn't affect the people around me. I tend to keep my training, diet and competition life separate from my "real life" and friends who don't compete. Don't get me wrong, while prepping for a show my coach may have me in the gym two or three times a day and it's not easy but I will never blow my friends or family off because I have to go train.

    I schedule my quality time spent with them around my training time. After competing for five years straight, the training and diet have become a way of life for me so I actually enjoy my diet and training program while in prep mode. I honestly don't even feel like I'm dieting when I have to prep for show anymore because I'm eating food that I enjoy eating (of course sometimes I wish my portions were a bit larger) ;)

    Eddie: I have spoken to a lot of competitors where there training, diet, and sleep do take over there lives, that is good to hear you can separate the two. When you look back on your bodybuilding career, would you do anything different?

    Kara: No..I don't really have regrets. If we never made mistakes then we would never learn from them.

    Eddie: Great answer Kara! What is you favorite body part to workout and why?

    Kara: Chest. I love movements that push away from the body.

    Eddie: Can you tell us about your family? Are you married? Do you have children?

    Kara: My family is absolutely amazing. They love me unconditionally and support me in whatever it is I choose to do. I'm not married and I don't have children.

    Eddie: Sounds like you have an awesome family! If one of our readers was interested in becoming a Figure Pro bodybuilding competitor and already lives a healthy lifestyle, what would your advice be to them?

    Kara: Number one on my list would be to start of working with the appropriate coach from the very beginning. Work with someone who has the proper credentials and who is successful at what they do.

    Eddie: If you could thank one person for helping you reach your fitness goals, who would it be?

    Kara: Never in the world could I ever just thank one person because there are many individuals responsible for my success. I would first have to thank my contest prep coach IFBB PRO Fakhri Mubarak and my fitness routine choreographer and coach IFBB PRO Heidi Fletcher/Sullivan. As I mentioned before, I would never be where I am today without these two amazing individuals in my life.

    They have both had my back and guided me in the right direction from the very beginning. They had always believed in my capabilities and legitimately never doubted me for a minute in my life. I would also like to thank my family for being so incredibly supportive of everything that I do.

    I also need to thank my friends for their support - I have been told that I have inspired them due to my dedication and commitment to follow through with my dreams however, what they don't really know is that they actually inspire me (all for different reasons). Last but not least, I'd have to thank god. I know I was put here for a reason...and sometimes I don't always know what the reason is...but in the end I know he will guide me to where I'm supposed to be.

    Eddie: I love it! Glory to God!! Where do you see yourself in ten years from now?

    Kara: Only time will tell.....I know that good things happen to good people....so I know behind it all.....the future looks bright for me ;)
