Hello Muscle 4 Life Nutrition readers. I promised to bring you the best athletes, and do I have one outstanding athlete for you today! Antoinette Oldfield is a lady that takes on many roles. Mother by day and Figure Competitor by night! Let's talk to Antoinette.
EC: Hi Antoinette tell all of our readers a little about yourself and how you got started in figure bodybuilding?
Antoinette: Hello Eddie and M4LN.com! I'm a proud mom of two boys named Kenneth who is 13yrs old and Tristan who is 9yrs old.
I've been actively training since 1989 and was spotted at a bikini competition by a competitive body builder who said I had the physique to compete.
He approached me after placing 1st at the bikini competition and had me meet him at one of the local gyms and there I trained with three body builders and they took me in and taught me everything I know today!
EC: Sounds like you have a busy schedule. Where do you reside and train at?
Antoinette: I live in Albuquerque, New Mexico and I train at Defined Fitness
EC: I have a good friend that lives in that area. What is your competitive history?
Antoinette: My first show I ever did was the Mid USA in 1992-1993 and I placed 3rd in the lightweight division in body building. That same year I went to compete in the Ms Fitness New Mexico and was runner up and that qualified me for the nationals in California and the following year I did the Ms. Fitness New Mexico once again.
EC: You have been competing for a while now. What has been your stepping stone to get where you are today?
Antoinette: I have always been consistent with my training, my dieting and have a close knit of friends who have been there to help and guide me through my fitness career.
EC: Do you have a trainer or contest coach or do you do it on your own?
Antoinette: I have a friend who is IFBB Pro Gennaro Brigante and Kimo Le who is a national level body builder that are guiding me and helping me with my contest prep and guidance with my weight training. I also have a training partner who is a female competitive body builder who just placed 5th at the USA's in body building that I train with on a daily basis.
EC: What is your training philosophy?
Antoinette: My training philosophy is the three D's: DISCIPLINE, DEDICATION and DETERMINATION! I believe in eating healthy and living a healthy lifestyle and staying consistent.
EC: I love that the three D's. If you could thank one person for helping you reach your fitness goals, who would it be?
Antoinette: There is actually more than one person who I would like to thank for helping reach my fitness goals! I've had two great personal trainers who helped with the MID USA & Ms. Fitness New Mexico, active body builders who helped guide me with my posing and dieting, IFBB Pro Gennaro Brigante and Kimo Le but if it did come right down to thanking one person it would be my friend Lonnie who was the first person that spotted me at my bikini competition! If it wasn't for him I wouldn't be where I'm at today!
EC: What does your current training workout look like?
Antoinette: Right now I train 5 to 6 days a week. Do cardio every other day, abs every other day and I train two body parts a day and keep my Sunday for leg day only. My time spent at the gym is not more than two hours a day.
EC: Is this training routine something that our readers can use to build muscle and lose body fat or is this something that is more suited for an advanced athlete?
Antoinette: The type of training routine I am currently doing right now is mainly suited for an advanced athlete but it can be modified to fit any individual who is willing to build muscle and lose body fat!
EC: Could you share with us your philosophy on nutrition for the off season and contest prep?
Antoinette: My philosophy on nutrition for the off season is to eat clean. I do have a cheat meal once a week and I stay away from all fried foods and eat low in carbs. I keep my sodium very low, drink plenty of water and crystal lite and when I do have a cheat meal I eat that meal in moderation. During my contest prep I eat 6 - 7 meals, cut my carbs by 5pm and my protein and carbs are weighed out for each meal.
EC: What was the hardest thing you had to deal with when it came to your diet?
Antoinette: The hardest thing to deal with when it came to my diet was making sure that I ate my meals every 3 hrs. That meant packing my meals every where I went.
EC: I know that to well, it can be a challenge to eat every three hours but well worth it. How important are supplements in your bodybuilding program and which supplements do you use year round?
Antoinette: Taking supplements is very important and has helped me a great deal with burning fat, keeping lean muscle, helping with muscle recovery and keeping my endurance during an intense work out. I take a daily multiple vitamin, amino 2000, advanced glutamine complex and a protein powder with zero carbs in it.
EC: What supplements do you feel are essential when preparing for a bodybuilding figure competition?
Antoinette: I make sure to take my daily multiple vitamin before my first meal, amino 2000 before and after each work out, glutamine 30 minutes after my work out for muscle recovery and keeping lean mass and protein powder immediately after my work out.
EC: What advice would you give to someone who has tried a number of weight loss programs with no success?
Antoinette: Someone who has tried a number of weight loss programs with no success should keep it very basic and simple in the early stages of weight loss. That would mean eating healthy, doing cardio every other day and starting at 30 minutes and increasing it up to an hour over a one month period. Starting off with low weights and high reps, depending on the individuals goals.
EC: Very good advice. Where and when is your next competition?
Antoinette: I plan on competing in my 2nd figure competition in Mesa, AZ November 28th which is the Western Regional. That show is a national qualifier.
Well the Muscle 4 Life Nutrition Team is rooting for you. Who has been the most memorable person you have enjoyed working with?
Antoinette: The most memorable people I have enjoyed working with are IFBB Pro Gennaro Brigante and my dear friend Kimo Le. They have kept me motivated and guiding me along my path to figure and helping me to get where I am today!
EC: What are your big plans for the future?
Antoinette: My big plans for the future is to keep training and to keep competing in figure! My long term goal is to qualify for the USA's in Las Vegas, NV and eventually get my IFBB Pro card!!
EC: I am sure we will be seeing you soon in Las Vegas. You could stop by and say hi! Would you like to give a shout out to anyone?
Antoinette: If there was anyone I would like to give a shout out to it, would first be my two boys Kenneth and Tristan, my family for supporting me especially the last two weeks of my contest. I would also like to give a shout out to Gennaro and Kimo!! Love you guys!!
EC: We would like to tell your son's they have an outstanding Mother, be proud! Anything else you would like to add?
